ABOUT TINA’S WISH

Know Early. Know Hope.® This is the mission of Tina’s Wish, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding groundbreaking scientific research for the early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer.  Tina’s Wish was founded in memory of the Honorable Tina Brozman, former chief judge of the SDNY Bankruptcy Court who died two years after she was diagnosed – too late – with ovarian cancer. Since its inception in 2008, Tina’s Wish has raised more than $24 million and is currently awarding $2.4 million annually in private grants for cutting-edge research. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Tina’s Wish is seeking an Events and Communications Associate to join a team that executes a robust portfolio of fundraising and cultivation events annually. This position will be an integral part of a dynamic and fast-paced development team that plans and executes a range of special events in NYC, Boston, Richmond, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.  In addition, this position will play an integral role in the foundation’s social media. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking for hands-on experience in a rapidly growing nonprofit by supporting the Foundation’s daily activities, fundraising events, and social media presence.

The Associate will have two primary components to their work:

  • Event planning and fundraising (70%): Assist with all aspects of events and support the fundraising and cultivation efforts of the overall team to build strong donor relationships
  • Social Media (30%): Assist with all aspects of the Foundation’s social media strategy and execution

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Event Planning: Utilize creativity and solid program knowledge to assist in creating compelling donor experiences and communications; Support all elements of events from pre-planning through day of execution
  • Donor Relations:  Assist with administrative needs for special events and donor stewardship projects; Track progress on annual and event-specific fundraising goals; Manage donor acknowledgments and fundraising database; Interface with Event Committees to ensure fundraising success
  • Event Support: Attend and support on-site events; Manage registration and volunteers; Coordinate outreach and logistics for donor events; Coordinate email and mail fundraising campaigns
  • Social Media: Liaison with third party social media firm to create and execute social media campaigns. Assist in managing the monthly social media calendar
  • Communications: Update/maintain Foundation’s website; Creatively compose and manage communications, mailings, and collateral material (electronic and hardcopy); Maintain email/mailing lists and ensure up-to-date contact information for all external stakeholders; Compose grant summaries and dynamic stewardship opportunities
  • Ambassadorship: Learn about the Tina’s Wish mission and community and proactively partner with the Tina’s Wish team to strengthen and advance stewardship of board members, donors, and prospects

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1–3 years of relevant work experience in the not-for-profit sector (substantial volunteer or internship experience involving event planning can substitute for full-time work experience)
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills (verbal, presentation, and written)
  • Exceptional time management skills, strong attention to detail, and positive orientation to problem solving, strong ability to multi-task
  • Exemplary capacity to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • A track record for going the extra mile, consistently taking initiative, thinking ahead, and demonstrating extra effort to exceed expectations
  • Strong data and database management skills, ability to create queries and run reports within the donor management system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the Tina’s Wish mission and the passion to inspire action and engagement among our supporters
  • Knowledge of the following systems is a plus but not required (please indicate your knowledge/familiarity/proficiency of the following systems in your cover letter): eTapestry, Constant Contact, WordPress, Canva, Social Media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn)

 

POLICIES AND SALARY RANGE

  • The Tina’s Wish team works on a hybrid schedule; typically two (2) days per week in our NYC office
  • Staff are expected to be available during Tina’s Wish normal hours of operation, Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm EST; periodic additional time required for in-person events and to meet project deliverables and deadlines; flexibility for periodic early morning and evening commitments; domestic travel for events 2-4 times per year
  • Hands-on involvement in execution of event setup
  • Starting salary range: $55,000 to $60,000 per year, eligible for annual performance bonus
